  • Vigorous and productive. Letting it over-crop when young may retard its maturity. Daylight sensitive, it typically goes dormant around September 1st in Minnesota.

  • Black , Small and round; blue slipskin. Cluster is small and compact. Average cluster length is 4 inches.

  • Susceptible to mildews.

  • Very hardy. Has withstood -50° F in Manitoba, Canada and was not
    harmed. Does best in a dry climate.

  • In moist climates, ‘Valiant’ is more susceptible to diseases.

  • Pedigree: ‘Fredonia’ x S.D. 9-39 (V. riparia from NE Montana)

    Origin: Brookings, South Dakota. Bred by R.M. Peterson; South Dakota State University.
